District Dues

District dues are assessed annually at the rate determined by the district.  Dues are to be paid to the Secretary-Treasurer.  Schools not paying district dues are ineligible to place or receive district awards.  Dues statements will be sent to each school each year and are to be paid by January 1.
 

Election of OVATA Officers

OVATA officers of District 2 will be elected on the even numbered years, with the exception of Camp Board Representative, at the May district meeting.  The chairperson shall conduct the election and the district membership chairperson shall confirm that the nominees are current OVATA members.  Elected officers are: District Chairperson, Assistant Chairperson and Secretary-Treasurer.  Appointed officers are: Membership Chairperson, Legislative Chairperson,  Computer Representative, Citrus Representative and Skills Advisory Chairperson.  Camp Board Representative will be appointed every third year.

The district placing for the following contests will be determined at the designated invitational judging contests.

Contest: Dairy, Agronomy, Horse, Wildlife, Nature Interpretation, Poultry, Meats and Dairy Foods - Determined at the Ashland County Contest.

General Livestock - Mt. Gilead if there is not a Livestock contest at the Ashland County Contest.

Small Engines & Tractor Troubleshooting will be determined each year.
 

Contest Rules

Soils
Teams will be composed of four students with the top three scores determining the team placing.  The host school will provide a minimum of four soil pits per contest and a 25 question 100 point test.  The host school will provide a schedule for arrival.  Each school is required to provide their own slope cards.  The top five teams will be notified (called) by the host school.

Non-Livestock and Livestock
District non-livestock contest will include poultry, wildlife management, agronomy, nature interpretation, meats and dairy foods.  All schools are asked to pay an invitational fee and enter in both the district and invitational contests if held in conjunction with an invitational contest.  Non-livestock teams are made up of four members each with all team members being eligible for individual awards.

District livestock contests shall include Dairy, Horse and General Livestock.  The advisors of District 2 will be in charge of grading, scoring and recording all district results.  All district teams must pay the invitational contest registration fee.  All teams will consist of four members.

Grain Merchandising, Co-ops, Agricultural Engineering, Farm Management, Forestry and the Greenhand Quiz
The district scores for the above contests will be taken from the state placing.

Team Decision Making
The top 2 teams from each sub-district will advance to the district contest.  The first place district team will compete in the state contest.  Host school is responsible for having three qualified judges.

Public Speaking...Creed, Beginning Prepared, Extemporaneous, Prepared
The Top 3 speakers per sub district in each contest will advance on to the district contest.  Three judges should be planned of which two shall be current agricultural educators are preferred for the sub-district and district contest.  Each school can bring one contestant in each sub-district contest per speaking division.

General Rules
Contest coordinators shall follow State Contest Guidelines when setting up, preparing and scoring the district contest.  Trophies for district contests not provided through the state will be secured by the District Secretary-Treasurer.  (Top four teams and top four individuals in all contests)

Breaking Ties
Ties will be broken in accordance with the State Guidelines.

Video Cameras
All video equipment and cameras must be removed from the room unless the contestant's or team's advisor permits the equipment to be present.  No District contest can be taped unless permission to do so is obtained from the advisor.

Tests
Tests for soils, tractor trouble shooting, small engines and agricultural sales contests will be generated from the state skills coordinator if possible and sent to the hosting school or district chairperson.

Contest Grading
All contest scoring will be done on-site.  Results for all contests are final when announced.
